Push Notifications & Notification Box
This guide explains the notification system in 4SCH โ what notifications you'll receive, how to manage them, and how to ensure push notifications are working on your device.
Audience: All users (Students, Parents, Teachers, School Admins).
What Are Notifications?โ
4SCH uses two types of notifications to keep you informed:
1. In-App Notifications (Notification Box)โ
- Live in a Notification Box accessible from a bell icon in the apps
- Persistent โ they stay until you delete them
- Show full title and message
- Tap to navigate to the relevant page
2. Push Notificationsโ
- Pop up on your device's lock screen / notification tray
- Even if the app is closed
- Tap to open the app at the relevant page
- Need to be enabled in your device settings
You'll typically receive both for important events.
What Notifications You'll Receiveโ
Notifications cover key school events. What you receive depends on your role:
Studentsโ
- ๐ Exam timetable published
- ๐ Results published (with grades and CA breakdown)
- ๐ New assignment created
- ๐ข School announcement
- ๐ฐ Fee invoice generated (if applicable)
- ๐ Event reminder
Parents/Guardiansโ
Everything students get, plus:
- ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง Child-specific notifications (attendance, behaviour, etc.)
- ๐ณ Fee payment reminders for your children

Managing Your Notification Boxโ
You can manage individual notifications and bulk actions.
Marking as Readโ
- Tap a notification in the list โ it's marked as read automatically
- Read notifications appear lighter/greyed out
- Unread notifications appear bolder

- Tap to mark every notification as read at once
Deleting Notificationsโ
- Mobile: Swipe left on a notification โ tap Delete
- Web: Click the ร button next to a notification
Clear Allโ
- Tap "Clear all" at the top to delete all your notifications at once
- Some apps offer "Clear read only" to keep unread ones
Important: Deletion is per-user. If your child also received the same notification, they still have it in their notification box.
Auto-Cleanupโ
To keep your notification box manageable, 4SCH automatically deletes:
- Notifications you've manually deleted
- Notifications older than 90 days (even if you didn't delete them)
This happens automatically โ you don't need to do anything.
Enabling Push Notifications on Your Deviceโ
For push notifications to reach your device's lock screen / notification tray, they must be enabled in your device settings.
iOS (iPhone/iPad)โ

- Scroll to Parent Student (or Staff Teacher) app

- Enable Allow Notifications
- Choose alert style (Banner, Alert, etc.)
- Enable Sounds and Badges if desired

Troubleshootingโ
I'm not receiving push notificationsโ
Check 1: Device notifications enabled?
- Follow the steps above for iOS / Android / browser
Check 2: App in background?
- iOS may pause notifications if app is closed for long periods. Open it occasionally to refresh.
Check 3: Internet connection?
- Push notifications require internet. Check Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Check 4: Battery saver / Do Not Disturb?
- Battery savers may delay notifications. Whitelist 4SCH apps in your battery settings.
- Check your phone isn't in Do Not Disturb mode.
Check 5: Notification permissions revoked?
- iOS / Android sometimes reset permissions after an update. Re-enable them.
Notification box is emptyโ
Check 1: Refresh the page
- Mobile: Pull down to refresh
- Web: Press F5 / Refresh button
Check 2: Are you logged in as the right person?
- Notifications are per-user โ make sure you're logged in as the intended user.
Check 3: Is the event recent?
- If you haven't received any school events recently, the box may genuinely be empty.
I tapped a notification but it doesn't open the right pageโ
Check 1: App version
- Update to the latest version of the app โ older versions may not support deep linking.
Check 2: Already logged out?
- The app may have logged you out. Log back in, then tap the notification again.
I'm missing notifications others receivedโ
Check 1: Your role and child links
- Notifications are role-specific. Parents only get notifications for their linked children.
- If you have multiple children, verify all are linked to your account.
Check 2: Subscription notifications (school admins)
- Subscription-related notifications go only to school administrators.
My child got the notification but I didn't (or vice versa)โ
This is a known good behaviour! Each user receives their own copy of notifications. If your child deletes their notification, it doesn't delete yours. Similarly, if you delete yours, theirs still appears.
Notification Frequencyโ
You don't get spammed:
- Events you trigger yourself (e.g., admin publishing a result) don't notify you
- Bulk actions create one notification per recipient (not one per recipient ร event)
- Auto-cleanup keeps the notification box tidy
If you find any notification too frequent, ask your school admin to review the school's notification settings.
Privacy & Dataโ
Notifications:
- Are sent only to users authorised to receive them
- Don't contain sensitive data in the title/body (just enough to identify the event)
- Are stored in your school's database (multi-tenant isolation)
- Are not shared with third parties
