Creating a New Slider​

Step 1: Access Slider Management

  1. Log in to Admin Panel
  2. Go to Settings or Content Management
  3. Click Homepage Sliders or Slider Management

Step 2: Create Slider

  1. Click Add New Slider or Create Slider
  2. Fill in slider details

Step 3: Upload Slider Image

Image Requirements:

  • Recommended Size: 1920 x 600 pixels (16:9 landscape ratio)
  • Minimum Size: 1200 x 400 pixels
  • Maximum File Size: 2MB (preferably under 1MB for fast loading)
  • Format: JPG or PNG
  • Quality: High resolution but optimized for web

Tips for Great Slider Images:

  • Use school brand colors
  • Include school logo
  • Text should be large and readable
  • High contrast (dark text on light background or vice versa)
  • Avoid too much text - keep it punchy
  • Test on mobile devices

Step 4: Add Slider Content

Title:

Enter a short, catchy title
Example: "Welcome to First Term 2024/2025!"
"WAEC Results Out - 98% Pass Rate!"
"Sports Day - March 15th"

Description/Subtitle (Optional):

Add supporting text if needed (keep it brief)
Example: "We wish all our students success this term"
"Congratulations to our exceptional students"
"Register your child now - limited slots"

Link (Optional):

  • Where should users go when they click?
  • Examples:
    • Event registration page
    • Fee payment portal
    • News article
    • Gallery album
    • External website

Link Type:

  • Internal (within 4SCH system)
  • External (opens in new tab)

Step 5: Set Display Options

Order/Priority:

  • Number 1 = Shows first in rotation
  • Number 2 = Shows second, etc.
  • Lower numbers = higher priority

Status:

  • βœ… Active - Slider is live and visible
  • ⏸️ Inactive - Slider is hidden (draft or archived)

Display Duration:

  • How long slider shows before rotating to next
  • Recommended: 5-7 seconds
  • Too short: Users can't read
  • Too long: Users get bored

Target Audience (if available):

  • All Users
  • Students Only
  • Parents Only
  • Teachers/Staff Only

Step 6: Preview & Publish

  1. Click Preview to see how it looks
  2. Test on mobile view
  3. If satisfied, click Save or Publish
  4. Slider goes live immediately (or as scheduled)

Managing Existing Sliders​

View All Sliders:

  1. Go to Homepage Sliders
  2. See list of all sliders with:
    • Thumbnail preview
    • Title
    • Status (Active/Inactive)
    • Order number
    • Date created

Edit a Slider:

  1. Click Edit button or pencil icon
  2. Update any field (image, title, description, order, etc.)
  3. Click Save Changes
  4. Changes appear immediately on homepage

Delete a Slider:

  1. Click Delete button or trash icon
  2. Confirm deletion
  3. ⚠️ Warning: This is permanent!

Reorder Sliders:

  • Method 1: Drag and drop sliders to reorder
  • Method 2: Change the order/priority number
  • Method 3: Use up/down arrows to move sliders

Activate/Deactivate Slider:

  • Toggle Active switch on/off
  • Inactive sliders don't show on homepage but are saved
  • Useful for seasonal content you'll reuse

Slider Best Practices​

Content Guidelines:

DO:

  • βœ… Use high-quality, clear images
  • βœ… Keep text minimal and punchy
  • βœ… Update regularly (at least monthly)
  • βœ… Align with school events calendar
  • βœ… Use consistent branding (colors, fonts, logo)
  • βœ… Test on mobile before publishing
  • βœ… Include call-to-action if needed ("Register Now", "Learn More")

DON'T:

  • ❌ Use blurry or low-quality images
  • ❌ Overcrowd with too much text
  • ❌ Leave outdated sliders active
  • ❌ Use copyrighted images without permission
  • ❌ Forget to check mobile responsiveness
  • ❌ Use offensive or inappropriate content
  • ❌ Have too many sliders (3-5 is ideal)

Timing & Rotation:

How Many Sliders?

  • Ideal: 3-5 active sliders
  • Minimum: 2 (for rotation effect)
  • Maximum: 7 (more = cluttered, slow loading)

How Long to Display?

  • Important announcement: Keep for 1-2 weeks
  • Event promotion: 2-3 weeks before event
  • Seasonal greeting: Duration of season/term
  • Achievement celebration: 1-2 weeks
  • General welcome: Entire term/session

Update Frequency:

  • Review weekly
  • Update at least monthly
  • Remove outdated content immediately
  • Add new content for major events

Managing Announcements​

Types of Announcements​

1. School-Wide Announcements

  • Sent to all students, parents, and staff
  • For general school news
  • Admin only

2. Class-Specific Announcements

  • Sent to specific class/section
  • For class-related news

3. Subject-Specific Announcements

  • Related to a particular subject
  • Teachers post to their subject students

Creating School-Wide Announcements​

Step 1: Access Announcements

  1. Log in to Admin Panel
  2. Go to Communication β†’ Announcements
  3. Or from Dashboard β†’ Quick Actions β†’ Post Announcement

Step 2: Create Announcement

  1. Click Create Announcement or New Announcement

Step 3: Enter Announcement Details

Title:

Clear, descriptive title
Example: "School Closure - Public Holiday"
"Exam Timetable Released"
"Parent-Teacher Meeting - Saturday"

Message/Description:

Full details of announcement
Example:
"The school will be closed on Monday, March 17th, 2025 for
Independence Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, March 18th.

Enjoy the holiday responsibly!"

Formatting:

  • Keep paragraphs short
  • Use bullet points for lists
  • Bold important information
  • Include dates, times, locations clearly

Step 4: Set Announcement Options

Priority/Importance:

  • πŸ”΄ High - Urgent (shows red, sends push notification)
  • 🟑 Medium - Important (shows yellow, may send notification)
  • 🟒 Low - General info (shows green, no push notification)

Target Audience:

  • All Users
  • Students Only
  • Parents Only
  • Teachers/Staff Only
  • Specific Classes/Sections

Attachments (Optional):

  • Upload PDFs, images, or documents
  • Examples: Exam timetable PDF, event flyer, forms
  • Max size: Usually 5-10MB

Expiry Date (Optional):

  • When should announcement no longer show?
  • Example: Event announcements expire after event date
  • Leave blank for permanent announcements

Step 5: Preview & Send

  1. Click Preview to review
  2. Check for typos and clarity
  3. Click Send or Publish

Delivery:

  • Appears on homepage immediately
  • Sent as push notification (if enabled)
  • Emailed to users (if configured)
  • Shows in user's announcement feed

Managing Announcements​

View Announcements:

  • See all active and archived announcements
  • Filter by:
    • Date range
    • Target audience
    • Priority
    • Status (Active/Expired)

Edit Announcement:

  1. Find announcement in list
  2. Click Edit
  3. Update content
  4. Click Save
  5. ⚠️ Note: Notifications won't re-send to users who already saw it

Delete Announcement:

  1. Click Delete
  2. Confirm deletion
  3. Removes from all users' feeds

Pin Important Announcement:

  • Pinned announcements stay at top
  • Use for critical, ongoing information
  • Example: "Fees payment portal maintenance this weekend"

Announcement Best Practices​

Writing Effective Announcements:

DO:

  • βœ… Use clear, simple language
  • βœ… Put most important info first
  • βœ… Include specific dates, times, locations
  • βœ… Provide action steps if needed
  • βœ… Proofread before sending
  • βœ… Use appropriate priority level
  • βœ… Send timely (not last-minute unless emergency)

DON'T:

  • ❌ Use ALL CAPS (seems like shouting)
  • ❌ Write overly long messages (keep concise)
  • ❌ Mark everything as "High Priority"
  • ❌ Send too frequently (announcement fatigue)
  • ❌ Include unverified information
  • ❌ Forget to include key details

Timing Guidelines:

How Far in Advance:

  • Major events: 2-4 weeks
  • Regular events: 1-2 weeks
  • Deadlines: 1-2 weeks, with reminders
  • Emergency: Immediately
  • General news: As it happens

Frequency:

  • Good: 2-3 announcements per week
  • Acceptable: Daily for different topics
  • Too Much: Multiple daily for non-urgent items

Best Times to Send:

  • Weekday mornings: 8-10 AM (parents checking before work)
  • Weekday evenings: 7-9 PM (family time, check phones)
  • Avoid: Very late night, very early morning
  • Weekend: OK for non-urgent announcements

Image Quality Issues​

Problem: Blurry or pixelated images

Slow Homepage Loading​
